History of Emmanuel

Emmanuel Baptist Church began as a mission of Fundamental Baptist Mission Board and held its first service on Sunday, October 2, 1983, with 27 in attendance. The first missionary pastor was Pastor Frank Pittman. They held their services in a rented facility at 900 Grover Rd. in Kings Mountain. The church was chartered on March 11, 1984.

In June of 1987 Pastor Wayne Reese became its second pastor.

The first Faith Promise Mission Conference was September 9, 1987. In the year of 2010, over $100,000 was given to missions and our general fund exceeded the budget.

Under the leadership of Pastor Wayne Reese, the church purchased 2.75 acres on Canterbury Rd. and began construction on a new building. Pastor Reese resigned his position early in 1992 and Bill Beard served as Interim Pastor.

In June 1992, the church extended a call to Dr. Charles Surrett to assume the office of the pastor. Under Pastor Surrett, the new church building was completed in September 1993. In 1994 Dr. Larry Brubaker was added to the staff as a part-time Assistant Pastor and Music Director. In 1997, Pastor Jim Ogle became the full-time Youth Pastor. Our teens took their first mission trip to Mexico in 1999 and since then, they have alternated between taking yearly mission trips and summer camp. We have seen many of our church members end up on various mission fields.

The church has added a steel building annex, which now is used for the auditorium on Sundays and youth meetings on Wednesday.
